The Art of Floor Care
1. STRIPPING -- .

Dust mop the entire floor thoroughly and tape off doorways and edges. Put out the wet floor signs and wear protective clothing. Mix the stripping solution properly using cool water. Spray baseboards and edges with Butcher's "Jackhammer" or 3M "Troubleshooter". Scrub with a white doodlebug pad or hand pad and rinse. Scrape any finish from edges if needed. Flood mop on stripper and let dwell for 5 -10 minutes. Put a clean black pad on the scrubbing machine; walk where you scrub flipping or changing the pad when clogged. Use a wet vac if possible to pick up the stripping solution after scrubbing. Damp mop rinse with clean water and a clean wet mop. Change mop water when dirty. Properly clean and store the equipment. You can apply floor finish when floor is dry.

GOOFS & CONSEQUENCES:

If you cover too big of an area.... Then the stripper will dry onto the floor.

If you don't allow enough dwell time.... Then you will leave patches of finish.

If you use a clogged pad.... Then you will leave patches of finish.

If you don't rinse with clean water.... Then the finish will peel up from the floor.

2. FINISHING --.

Follow proper stripping or scrubbing procedures first. Use a clean finish mop. Make sure the wet floor signs are out. Line the bucket with a garbage bag and pour in the finish. Place the mop in the finish and wring out the bottom half of the mop. Start by laying the finish in sections. Flip the mop to get more finish. After 10 minutes place the floor fans. If you don't have fans wait 30 - 45 minutes. The floor is ready for recoat when it is dry to the touch. Apply three to four coats depending on the traffic and the floor maintenance program you have. Properly clean and store equipment.

GOOFS & CONSEQUENCES:

If you use a dirty mop.... Then the floor will be streaky.

If you pour finish into a dirty bucket.... Then the floor will be dull.

If you recoat before the finish is dry.... Then the floor will be dull.

If you put the floor fan on too soon.... Then you will leave ripples in the finish.

3.DAILY MAINTENANCE --.

Use clean mops and pads. Clean or vacuum the walk-off mats. Spray dust mop with treatment one hour before use and then dust mop. Use a scraper to remove gum or stickers. Wear protective equipment and mix the cleaning solution properly. Put out the wet floor signs. Mop an area with a figure eight motion. Change mop water when dirty. Rinse off equipment when done and store properly. If you are using an autoscrubber then scrub using overlapping passes. Flip or change the pad(s) when dirty. Empty and rinse out both tanks, store machine properly.

GOOFS & CONSEQUENCES:

If you use too much chemical.... Then the floor will be sticky.

If you use a dirty mop or dirty water.... Then the floor will be streaky.

If you don't clean the walk-off mat.... Then dirt will track back onto the floor.

If you scrub using a dirty pad.... Then you will grind dirt into the floor.
